The fires of Mount Doom may have subsided, but the epic saga of Middle-earth isn't over yet! Warner Bros. has ignited excitement among Tolkien fans with the announcement of a new Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum. This live-action adventure delves back into the familiar world created by Peter Jackson's beloved trilogies, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Here's what makes The Hunt for Gollum extra enticing: it reunites key players from Jackson's previous Middle-earth films. Andy Serkis, who delivered an unforgettable performance as Gollum, will not only reprise the role but also step behind the camera as director. Writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who penned the scripts for Jackson's trilogies, will craft the new storyline. And even Peter Jackson himself joins the project as a producer.

The title, The Hunt for Gollum, hints at the film's plot. In J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings novel, Gandalf the wizard and Aragorn the ranger discuss searching for Gollum in the time between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. While Jackson's trilogies adapted Tolkien's work with some creative liberties, they largely stayed faithful to the source material. If The Hunt for Gollum follows suit, then descriptions of Gandalf and Aragorn's adventure in Tolkien's novel could offer clues about the upcoming film's plot and the characters we might see return. So, grab your pipe and prepare for a new Middle-earth adventure – The Hunt for Gollum is on the horizon!

This prequel dives into the events that unfolded 17 years prior to The Fellowship of the Ring. Remember Bilbo's mysterious disappearance after his 111th birthday party? That's where The Hunt for Gollum picks up.

Suspicious about the ring Bilbo possessed, Gandalf sets out to learn more about the Rings of Power. A key part of his investigation? Finding Gollum, the creature who claimed to have lost the ring to Bilbo in a riddle game.

But Gollum isn't exactly easy to track down. Enter Aragorn, a skilled ranger with a keen eye for following trails. As Aragorn explains in The Fellowship of the Ring, he joins the hunt because "it seemed fit" for an heir of Isildur to help right his ancestor's wrongs.

For nearly two decades, Gandalf and Aragorn scour the lands, searching for Gollum from the Misty Mountains to the borders of Mordor. However, their efforts are ultimately in vain. The elusive Gollum is hiding in the one place they can't reach, setting the stage for the events of The Lord of the Rings.

    Gollum's Double Trouble!

The Hunt for Gollum promises to delve deep into the shadowy past of this fascinating character. But before Gollum became entangled with Frodo, he had some rough encounters of his own.

Here's a twist: Gollum wasn't just hunted by Gandalf and Aragorn. He also crossed paths with both the Dark Lord Sauron and the Elves!

Director Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the previous Lord of the Rings films, actually expressed interest in portraying this part of Gollum's story way back in 1998.

Shortly after the events of The Hobbit, Gandalf and the Elves from the Woodland Realm actually did a quick search for Gollum. However, Gandalf decided it wasn't urgent at the time.

Fast forward a few years, and Gollum makes a big mistake: he gets too close to Sauron's dark domain, Mordor. The Dark Lord's forces capture Gollum and subject him to brutal torture, desperate for any information about the One Ring.

Gollum, surprisingly tough, only reveals that a hobbit named Baggins from the Shire stole the Ring. This doesn't help Sauron much, since he has no clue where the Shire is or how to find a hobbit.

In a surprising move, Sauron releases Gollum in 3017. Why the sudden mercy? Sauron hopes Gollum will unwittingly lead him to the Ring!

Gollum doesn't get far. Aragorn captures him in the Dead Marshes and brings him to the Woodland Realm, where Gandalf can question him. The film could explore interactions between Gollum and Elves like Legolas or Tauriel, a character created for The Hobbit trilogy.

Gandalf's interrogation isn't easy. Gollum, just as resistant as he was with Sauron, makes up stories about his "Precious" being a birthday gift. Finally, under the threat of fire, Gollum breaks down and confesses to murdering Déagol, the hobbit who originally possessed the One Ring.

The Hunt for Gollum promises to be a thrilling prequel filled with suspense and dark encounters. Stay tuned to see how this new chapter in Middle-earth unfolds!

The One Ring may be gone, but the mystery surrounding it continues! The Hunt for Gollum delves into a crucial period before Frodo's quest, revealing a shocking truth Gandalf uncovers.

Drawn to Darkness: Despite his best efforts, Gollum couldn't resist the pull of Mordor, Sauron's evil domain. This encounter not only puts him on Sauron's radar, but also makes him one of the few to witness the Dark Lord's physical form!

A Web of Lies: Desperate to reclaim his "Precious," Gollum spins a web of deceit. He misleads Sauron about the Shire's location, but even his lies spark suspicion in Gandalf.

Confirmation Strikes: Between Sauron's relentless pursuit of the Ring, Gollum's murderous act to obtain it, and Bilbo's secrecy about finding it, Gandalf's worst fears are confirmed – the Ring Bilbo possesses is indeed the One Ring.

A Vengeful Promise: Gollum, consumed by anger, vows revenge on Bilbo and hints at powerful allies. These "friends" are likely Sauron's forces, unknowingly united with Gollum in their desire to find the Ring.

Escape and Evasion: The film could explore Gollum's escape from the Woodland Realm during an Orc attack, mirroring Legolas' mission to Rivendell in The Lord of the Rings to report Gollum's disappearance.

A Fateful Encounter: Unable to reach the Shire, Gollum waits in the Misty Mountains, setting the stage for his fateful clash with the Fellowship just months later.

Familiar Faces?: While casting details are under wraps, staying true to Tolkien's work could bring back actors like Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) and Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) for this prequel adventure.

The Hunt for Gollum promises to be a captivating exploration of a pivotal time in Middle-earth's history. Prepare to be enthralled by the events that unfolded before Frodo embarked on his legendary quest!
